Little Bird Library is a family run book shop. Helen and Simon are the chief members of the team, but we like to get our own 'Little Birds' (aka, our four children!) involved as well. And they enjoy helping out too!

We are currently operating online from the small West Yorkshire town of Castleford. The dream is to one day turn this into a physical shop, ideally in Leeds, but you know...pandemics and all that jazz meant we thought we would put that on the back burner and focus our energies online for now.

We specialise in second hand books, giving them a new lease of life. The personal touch is important to us, as is customer satisfaction. All of our orders are packed with love and we take pride in our little extra touches to show we care.

Being eco-friendly is a huge factor for us, which is why all of our packaging is either reused or recycled, and fully recyclable. We love supporting fellow small businesses.

Helen Perkins

Founder, Social Media Rambler and Book Seller Extraordinaire

Hi, I'm Helen! I am one half of the Little Bird Library dream team (along with my husband Simon - that's his face next to mine!)

I'm the dreamer behind Little Bird Library. I do the majority of the book sourcing, a lot of the social media posting and am often the chief book packer-upper.

Reading and books in general have been a large part of my life for as long as I can remember. I am a huge believer that books are magic. I am also a huge advocate of reading to children and getting children to read. I feel like every person, young or old, should have access to books! It has been a life long dream of mine to open a  small, independent book shop, so I can share this love of literature with other people and help people love books the way I do (and of course, being surrounded by books all day is an added bonus!). This is where Little Bird Library comes in. I am whimsical and colourful, with a love of all things vintage, quaint and quirky. These are all elements that we want to embrace in Little Bird Library. Creativity and craftiness runs through my bones. Oh, and I have a bit of a thing for teacups, even if my clumsiness prevents me from truly benefitting from their prettiness...

Favourite book: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and the Keeper of the Lost Things (closely followed by Great Gatsby).

Favourite author: Currently I am a wee bit obsessed with Ruth Hogan and her gorgeously whimsical novels.

Random facts: I have an English degree and have written a couple of as-yet-unpublished picture books and half a zombie novel...
